FAQ:

The queen's Throne

WHAT IS THE QUEEN’S THRONE?

The Queen’s Throne is an immersive theatre experience set in the realm of Emberwood. You will enter the world of the Six Great Houses and become part of a gathering at court at a moment of political uncertainty. You will meet characters, uncover secrets, make alliances, hear rumours, take part in the life of the court and ultimately have a say in what happens to the realm. This is live theatre, but you are not simply sitting and watching a show. You are part of the story.

DO I NEED TO BE AN ACTOR?

Absolutely not. You do not need any acting experience, and you will not be expected to perform a character or give a speech. You can engage with the experience as much or as little as you like. You might find yourself negotiating with another House, speaking to a character, joining a discussion, pursuing a rumour or simply watching events unfold around you. There is no right way to play it.

WILL I HAVE TO SPEAK IN FRONT OF EVERYONE?

No, unless you want to. You may be invited to contribute to conversations or decisions, but you will not be forced to perform, improvise or speak in front of the entire audience. If you prefer to listen, observe and make your influence felt in other ways, that’s absolutely fine.

WHO WILL I BE?

You will attend as a member of one of the Six Great Houses of Emberwood. Your House will have its own history, interests and ambitions, and you will receive information before or when you arrive to help you understand where you stand in the realm. You are not being asked to memorise a character or backstory. You simply need to know who your House is and what matters to them.

CAN I CHOOSE MY HOUSE?

House allocation depends on the ticket and booking arrangements for the particular event. Where possible, we will make reasonable efforts to keep people who book together in the same House. If you are booking separately from friends or family but would like to be together, please contact us as early as possible.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

There is no formal costume requirement. The event is set in a fantasy medieval-inspired world, so you are very welcome to dress for the occasion if you would like to. Think medieval, fantasy, courtly, noble, mysterious or simply something that makes you feel like you belong in Emberwood. You don’t need to spend money on a costume. Something as simple as a dark shirt, dress, waistcoat, jewellery or boots can work brilliantly. We will provide a House identifier or other element to help you become part of the realm.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A COSTUME?

That’s completely fine – you don’t need one to take part. Your House identifier and the atmosphere of the event will do the rest. Come in whatever you feel comfortable wearing.

HOW LONG DOES THE EVENT LAST?

Please check the event booking page for the exact timings. You should expect the experience to last approximately 3.5 hours, including any arrival, refreshments, interval and event activities. We recommend allowing a little extra time around the advertised start and finish times.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Your ticket and pre-event information will give you the specific arrival time. Please arrive in good time. There will be an arrival and check-in process before the main experience begins, including receiving your House information and any materials you need. Late arrival may mean that you miss part of the experience.

IS THERE FOOD?

Yes. During the interval entertainment you will provided with a rustic cold buffet to share with your House. Further details will be provided with your booking information. Please let us know about any significant allergies or dietary requirements as early as possible.

IS DRINK INCLUDED?

You will receive three complimentary themed alcoholic cocktails or non-alcoholic mocktails during the event. Please drink responsibly. Alcohol will only be served in accordance with applicable licensing requirements.

CAN I BUY DRINKS AT THE EVENT?

No, we don’t currently offer a bar at our events.

DO I HAVE TO DRINK ALCOHOL?

No. Alcohol is entirely optional. For your complimentary themed cocktails a non-alcoholic alternative will be available.

IS THE EVENT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

No, children are not permitted for this event. The Queen’s Throne is intended for adults (18+) only. The experience contains themes and material that may not be suitable for younger children, including political intrigue, illness, death, threat and potentially dark or frightening themes. Please check the age guidance before booking.

CAN I COME ON MY OWN?

Yes, why not? In fact, coming alone can be a brilliant way to experience The Queen’s Throne. You will be assigned to a Great House and have plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with other members of your House and the wider court.

CAN I COME WITH FRIENDS OR FAMILY?

Absolutely. If you book together, we will make reasonable efforts to keep you together within the same House. If you are making separate bookings, contact us after booking and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

CAN I BOOK A COUPLE TICKET?

Yes, where Couple Tickets are available. The Couple Ticket is designed for two people attending together and may include a special moment or ceremony during the experience. Please check the ticket description for the exact benefits included with your Couple Ticket.

CAN I BOOK A GROUP?

Yes. Group Tickets may be available depending on the performance. If you are bringing a larger group, booking together is the best way to ensure that we know you wish to attend together.

WHAT IS THE HIGH NOBLE TICKET?

The High Noble Ticket is a premium ticket option offering additional benefits beyond the standard experience. The exact benefits are listed on the ticket booking page and may include additional House or courtly privileges, special items or other extras.

DO I NEED TO KNOW THE EMBERWOOD STORY BEFORE I COME?

No. Absolutely no prior knowledge is required. You will receive everything you need to understand the world, your House and the situation facing the realm. If you want to explore the wider world of Emberwood beforehand, there will be additional lore available — but you can come in knowing nothing and still enjoy the experience.

IS THIS LIKE DUNGEONS & DRAGONS OR A LARP?

Not really. Whilst there are similarities, The Queen’s Throne is immersive theatre rather than a tabletop role-playing game or traditional LARP. There are no character sheets, dice rolls or complicated game rules. You are entering a live theatrical world where your conversations, choices, alliances and actions can influence the experience.

HOW MUCH CONTROL DO I ACTUALLY HAVE?

That depends on you. There is no single route through The Queen’s Throne. You may uncover information, form alliances, influence other Houses, pursue your own House’s interests or simply observe the political struggle around you. The story has key events, but what happens between them — and what decisions are ultimately made — is shaped by the people in the room.

WILL THE ACTORS TALK TO ME?

Yes. Characters will move through the space and interact with guests throughout the experience. You may be approached directly, or you may decide to seek out a particular character yourself. You never need to worry about “saying the wrong thing”. The actors are there to help you stay within the world and make the experience work.

CAN I TOUCH THE ACTORS?

Please don’t deliberately touch performers, staff or other guests unless you are specifically invited to do so as part of the experience. Our performers may move close to you or interact with you as part of the performance. If you are uncomfortable with an interaction, let a member of the team know.

WILL THERE BE LOUD NOISES, DARKNESS OR FRIGHTENING MOMENTS?

The Queen’s Throne is a dramatic and immersive experience and may include low lighting, sudden sounds, heightened performances, fictional violence, illness, death and other dramatic material. It is not intended as a horror experience, but some moments may be intense. If you have a particular concern about accessibility or sensory triggers, please contact us before booking.

WHAT IF I NEED TO LEAVE DURING THE EXPERIENCE?

If you need to leave the experience temporarily, please speak to a member of the Anyplace Theatre team where possible. For safety reasons, you must follow any instructions given by the event team. If you need to leave permanently, please let a member of the team know.

IS THE VENUE ACCESSIBLE?

Accessibility varies according to the venue. Specific access information for this performance will be provided on the booking page or before the event. If you have an accessibility requirement or would like to discuss whether the event is suitable for you, please contact us before booking or attending. We will always do our best to make reasonable adjustments where possible.

CAN I TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS?

Photography may be permitted during some parts of the experience, but certain scenes or areas may be designated as no-photography zones. Please follow instructions from the event team. Photography or filming may also take place during the event for Anyplace Theatre’s promotional or archival purposes. If you have concerns about appearing in photographs or filming, please speak to a member of the team.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I ARRIVE LATE?

Please arrive on time. The experience begins from the moment you enter the venue, and late arrival may mean that you miss important information or part of the story. For safety and artistic reasons, we may not always be able to admit late arrivals immediately. If you arrive too late to be admitted, a refund will not normally be available.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF I CAN NO LONGER ATTEND?

Tickets are generally purchased for a particular performance and are not normally refundable simply because you can no longer attend. However, depending on availability, we may be able to transfer your ticket to another person or another performance. Please see the Anyplace Theatre Booking Terms and Conditions for full details.

WHAT IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED?

If Anyplace Theatre has to cancel an event, we will contact affected ticket holders and explain the available options. Depending on the circumstances, this may include transferring your booking to another performance or receiving a refund.

WHAT IF THE EVENT CHANGES?

Live theatre is inherently changeable. Performers, scenes, activities, timings and other elements may sometimes change for artistic, operational or safety reasons. We will always aim to ensure that the experience remains substantially as advertised.
