Queen’s Rest, 17th of Frostwane, 349 AF
My Lord,
The Queen has taken a turn for the worse. Her physicians no longer speak of recovery, and Her Majesty has not appeared before the court for six days. There is still no named heir.
You know what this means.
The six Great Houses have been summoned to Queen’s Rest.
Officially, they have been called to advise the Queen on the governance of the Realm. In truth, I fear they have been summoned because there may soon be no Queen left to advise.
You know what is truly at stake.
If you intend to come to the capital, take care. The roads are crowded, and not everyone arriving at Queen’s Rest has come to serve the Realm. Bring someone you trust. Someone who will watch your back.
Yours in confidence,
Master of Letters
House of Emberwood
Welcome to Emberwood
Your place at Court
The Royal Summons has been issued. How you will answer it?
When you arrive at Queen’s Rest, you will enter the court as a member of one of Emberwood’s noble Houses. You will have your own loyalties, interests and reasons for being there.
The court is already unsettled. The Queen is gravely ill. The succession is uncertain. Everyone knows that decisions will have to be made, but no one can be certain what those decisions will mean for the Realm.
There will be matters to discuss and disputes to settle. Petitions will be heard. Information will be traded. Alliances may form where you least expect them. You are free to decide where you put your attention and who you choose to trust.
The evening is not a performance that you simply watch unfold. The actors will bring the court to life, but the story is created by the people in the room.
What begins at the Queen’s court may end somewhere none of you expected.
Every audience is different, so every story is different.
What to Expect
The Queen’s Throne is an immersive theatre experience. You won’t be sitting and watching a story happen – you’ll be and active part of it.
When you arrive at Queen’s Rest, you’ll be welcomed into one of Emberwood’s Great Houses and given what you need to take your place at court. From there, the evening unfolds around you.
Meet the Court
The court is populated by live characters, each with their own position, personality and interests. Some will seek your support. Others may have something to gain from keeping you at a distance. As well as your own House, you will meet nobles from other Houses in the Realm. The Great Officers of the Realm (the Queen’s closest advisors) will also be on hand to help you find your way whilst at court.
Find your Own Way
You can spend your time however you choose. Talk to other members of the court, seek out information, pursue your House’s interests, or simply follow whatever catches your attention.
You don’t need to be an actor. There are no lines to learn and you won’t be asked to perform or speak in front of the room (unless you choose to).
Take Part in the Story
Some of you may be called together for small councils to discuss matters affecting the Realm. Between them, there will be opportunities to explore, negotiate, and make your own choices.
The actors will guide the evening and keep the story moving, but they won’t tell you what to do. It’s your story to find, and you decide how much you want to get involved.
IMPORTANT Information
The Queen’s Throne is designed for adults (18+) who enjoy immersive, participatory theatre. You do not need any previous experience of acting, theatre, role play or improvisation to take part.
The experience involves interacting with both actors and other guests. You are free to engage with the story at your own pace, and there is no requirement to perform, improvise or speak in front of the whole room.
Before you arrive
You will receive further information about the evening via email before the event, so you can arrive knowing where you belong within the Realm.
Appropriate costumes are encouraged and help to maintain the immersion, but do not feel that you need to wear one. Your House identification and immersive costume piece will be provided.
During the Event
The event takes place in a shared space, and some parts of the experience involve moving around the venue and speaking with other participants.
Food and refreshments will be provided during the evening, including three complimentary themed cocktails, or mocktails if you prefer.
The Queen’s Throne is a live, unfolding experience. While the main events of the evening are carefully planned, the conversations, decisions and interactions may take the story in unexpected directions.
